Only Festival to take place during the four months of summer, Cinésites shows films in 150 places around France and Europe. From castles to rural villages, writers houses to ancient ruins, industrial waste lands to national parks... two teams from the Center Jean Vigo travel across the roads of your holidays, to combine cultural heritage and cinema.
The film is selected according to THE SITE’S SPIRIT, MEMORY OR SYMBOLS : here are some examples of the 2003 festival : « La baie des anges », by Jacques Demy, screened on the pier of Arcachon, or the film « Brassed off », in the historical mining center of Lewarde in the North of France. But Also the films « Gladiator », shown in the Gallo-Roman theatre of Drevant, in the center of France, and « Être et avoir », by Nicolas Philibert, in a rural district which fights for the maintenance of its school...
The fact that it is free contributes to the festive atmosphere of the evening. Each evening starts with multiple events such as concerts, exhibitions or picnics… and thus the audience discovers the various aspects of cultural heritage in a convivial atmosphere.
The concept of the Cinésites belongs to the Center Jean Vigo. It was created in 1993 on the itinerary "Fortresses & Bastides " in Aquitaine-the area of Bordeaux-and deposited with the I.N.P.I. Now, Cinésites is on the road to Europe. In 2003, Poland and two Baltic States have joined the festival and widened the extent of this event. In 2004, Cinésites had the pleasure of welcoming two countries in her partnerships, the Czech Republic and Spain.
This year more than 60 000 people attended Cinésites.
Cinésites is more than a film screening under a starry sky. This concept is both simple and strong, which explains its spectacular development in France and in Europe.
